About Us

Who We Are...

The SLA was founded in 2009 by Phi Nguyen to provide students with a source of information for law school related matters. In the absence of a law club on campus, the SLA was also created to serve as an on-campus community wherein students, faculty and staff could exchange thoughts, opinions and information on legal issues. In addition, it is also within the SLA's mandate to partake in advocacy and fundraising campaigns to support human rights related social causes

Going into its eighth year, the SLA hopes to provide its members with valuable resources that will help them find, choose, apply to and increase their chances of becoming accepted into the law schools of their choice.

Our Main Goals

  1. Provide students with the necessary information and resources to find, choose, and apply to law school.
  2. Facilitate an interest in law among all students on campus through law-related events and activities.
  3. Support social causes that are directed towards acquiring equal human rights for all people, on a local,  national and global level.

Asli is in her fourth year of Legal Studies, with a minor in Criminology and Justice. This is her first year getting involved with the Student Law Association. Aside from being apart of the Student Law Association, Asli is a Student Ambassador for UOIT, and is a general member of many other clubs on campus. Whenever possible due to her academic schedule, Asli volunteers at a local community center representing the GTA Somaliland groups, such as Gashanti Unity and much more. Volunteering under these organizations was extremely fufilling, in that she was able to contribute her skills and knowledge to the youth in Toronto. Asli has plans to attend law school after graduating and is thrilled to be apart of the Student Law association!

I am currently in my third year of Legal Studies specializing in Human Rights and a prior education in Drug and Alcohol Counselling. I began building the SLA website two years and am eager to continue its development to act as our communication with past, present, and future students. After completion of my degree I aspire to attend Law School.
